Rumors have started to erupt all around the land of a mysterious star pokemon by the name of Jirachi. Myth has it that when summoned with an ancient melody played by the Seven Treasures, legendary musical instruments with unrivaled powers, Jirachi will awaken and grant his summoner any wish they may possibly desire. Since the beginning of time, these treasures have been entrusted to legendary pokemon of their own merits, and dispersed across the land. These pokemon guard the treasures with their lives, shielding them from the grasp of those corrupt with greed and evil. On its own, a single instrument is capable of complete manipulation over the type of pokemon it corresponds to, a dangerous relic in the wrong hands. Hiding away in their own domains, the legendary pokemon responsible for the Seven Treasures wait for either a worthy adventurer whose skills they can test, or a vagrant they must obliterate. These toiling dungeons are inhabited and guarded by pokemon that have been influenced by the instrument being stowed away at the end of these perilous mazes, their shape now intangible due to corruption caused by a slowly decaying Aurora Pillar, said to be the tower inhabited by the god pokemon, Arceus.

Nonetheless, teams of pokemon associated with an astoundingly large guild, known as Magi, have devoted themselves to exploring the diverse dungeons around the world. Some seek these mystical treasures, others seek to explore the world and chart it all, and some search for criminals and assist pokemon within the dungeons. No matter their purpose, these explorers call themselves the Magi, and typically work in teams. Each of them has a badge to show their allegiance to the guild, and can be used to teleport both themselves and others out of the dungeons when things get too hot to handle. Others choose to go alone, though it is not advised, several can stand their ground. Leadership of the guild is often unknown, and not really disputed about, but Magi must report their findings on bulletins in the guild and offer a sum of their loot in exchange for places to stay, free food, and supplies. The organization is primarily there in order to retain order among the pokemon. On the other hand, some pokemon instead choose to avoid this dangerous lifestyle altogether, instead taking to running services in Solus Town, the area that surrounds the Magi guild. For example, there is a steady bank service, several assorted shops, a tailor, various restaurants, a dojo where Magi can train, appraising services, storage, mail, among other things of the like. Some Magi work part-time at stores for exploring funds or to simply get rich.

As this is all happening, a rift in space and time slowly corrupt in the land. Dungeons in the world continuously change, the corruption spread to lesser pokemon that inhabit the dungeons, causing them to turn savage and attack anyone who dare steps foot in the dungeons. Many legendary pokemon have completely lost their sanity as well, to the point where their very appearances and powers had begun to be altered. These tainted legendaries are known as Forlorn Souls, wandering aimlessly through the dungeons that were once their domain, wreaking havoc with their shockingly absurd new powers and affecting the pokemon around them as well. Some magi take it upon their responsibility to hunt down these legendaries. Some seek to abolish them, others hope to revert them to a state that they were in before. And there are even others digging through ancient, charred fragments of the ultimate book of ancient knowledge, the Magnus, researching the Aurora Bastion and attempting to figure out how to stop the corruption for good.
